Each class will be required to complete at least one independent novel study. The modern texts are meant to enhance the classical texts that will be read in class. Independent reading time will be given in class, however, students will also be asked to read outside of class. All students will be assessed through quizzes, writing assignments, and group discussions. Students not prepared with the assigned reading will not be able to participate in class and group discussions and will take an zero for the participation grade for the day.

The first video is one of your supplementary text assignments for your novel study and offers a look at the valiant efforts to make sure girls in Afghanistan have an opportunity to learn. The second video adds to your understanding of this struggle and of the courageous women who are helping each other at great risk to themselves.
